Run Fatboy Run

The last 2 weeks of 2008 and the first 2 of 2009 have allowed me to see more movies than I think I have in over a year. I don't think im exaggerating much.

Tonight, I had the pleasure of watching Run, Fatboy, Run starring Simon Pegg and Hank Azaria & directed by David Schwimmer. And it was hilarious! Of course, I was a fan of Shaun of the Dead - not that this movie is quite like that - but the humour is still much the same! Also, a huge fan of Spaced (the great British Simon Pegg sitcom)! I reccomend it greatly! And it has the guy who was the lead in Death at a Funeral - Dylan Moran - (seriously the most i've ever laughed in my life, i think). It's a touching and comedic story of a guy who always runs away from everything, and he finally has to make a stand to face it, or forever be running away. Some great one-liners, here.

It was a nice moment to spend with the Guinea Pig I am baby sitting, as well.

A few great moments:
The only serious relationship I've been in ended in a broken collarbone and a dead meerkat, so I might not be the best for advice.

I got you a present
Libby: Aww thanks
Gordon: It's a CD, I hope you haven't got it. Because I don't have a receipt and I didn't exactly buy it.

Watch it. And if you're still looking for laughs, I reccomend Hamlet 2. That's what I said. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1104733/. Silly and stupid. But funny. Seriously, the song and musical theater production of "Rock Me Sexy Jesus" is worth it all!

Enjoy the last weekend of January! Hope to see you at the barking Spider Sunday @ 9pm!

Snow and then Some

This has been an interminably long week. But it is Friday. And as I drove down Rt. 18 a few minutes ago, I came across a great sign at the Lube Stop - "Be nice. Lubricate. Your canr has needs too." Ha!

Kind of a dull day so far. Had my oil changed early this morning. The crazy moment of the day was there. I was sitting in the waiting room area working on my computer - trying to update the schedule and such, and this man sits down at the table and starts chatting. He is a nice guy and we soon get talking about music. Turns out, he had a huge sound/lighting company and worked with the Stones in the late 60's and early 70's! Wow. He also was the company that was set to do the much-apnticipated Simon/Garfunkel reunion tour. A very interesting man. One of 15 children! I have to say that it was the best trip to the car dealer/mechanic I've ever had!

And support Angel Falls Coffee Shop in Highland Square. http://www.angelfallscoffee.com/ourstore.aspx
Not only are they locally owned and community-oriented, but they have homemade Vegan peanut butter and oat cookies and some sort of Vegan banana bread. Yum!

Stay warm and dry!

Cavs tonight, etc.

So this is my introductory blog as well.. I'm really excited to see how the Cavs fare tonight against the Magic. This will be one of their bigger tests and I'm sure that they're going to really miss Z not coming back tonight. Howard is a beast and the Cavs will need as many bodies as possible against him. I have a feeling that if they play great D and get their hands in the faces of all those great shooters we'll pull out a victory.

I just got the new Andrew Bird CD the other day and I've really enjoyed it. I got introduced to him when I saw him open for Wilco down in Columbus last October/November. I enjoyed his last album (Armchair Apocrypha) but after many many listenings it grew a little tired on me. Hopefully his new one won't do the same.

I was first able to hear the CD using NPR's music section. They have some great exclusive first listens for CD's coming out soon (M. Ward, Animal Collective, Springsteen, Andrew Bird). Plus they have some great archives from the World Cafe. I just listened to a recent show with Derek Trucks Band and I was really impressed. Derek Trucks is a phenomenal guitar player but I haven't really dug his band's stuff. That may have changed with his new CD. I may have to go check them out at the HOB when they come to Cleveland in a few weeks.

Check out NPR music.. It's worth your time.

Back in the studio?

last night we had a band "business" meeting (traded our instruments for laptops/portfolios & wings/beer.) among other things, we learned how to spell "blog". okay, I'll go first.

so, tonight the band was due back into the studio (top secret Cleveland locale) to demo a new song or two we've been working on for future records. however, the new place doesn't seem to be ready to roll quite yet, due to some unforeseen technical difficulties. so, we'll reschedule.

"demoing" is a potentially cool way for us to record our musical thoughts so we can listen with fresh ears later on (ok, and an excuse to rock.) we'll probably be re-record it down the road once the song has had a chance to evolve (provided we've raised enough capital from the sale of our current/upcoming records...).

many, many new exciting things on the horizon...stay tuned!!
